Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

The program aims to provide an excellent environment and facilities with an emphasis on the balance of theory and practice, as well as the independent research capability to cultivate advanced specialists in chemical engineering and related industry for our country. At present, the program has 30 full-time faculty members coming from domestic and oversea well-known universities and all of them are specialists in both theory and practice.

With the national sustainable development policy and based on the trend in Taiwan industry as well as our faculty, facilities, and research results, the institute emphasizes the effective teaching and development of practical technologies. The program offers elective courses and research in the areas of transport phenomena, polymer materials, semiconductor materials, nanomaterials, biomaterials, optoelectronic materials, separation process, biotechnology, biochemical process, fine chemicals, cleaner production, pollution prevention, energy & environment, fuel cell & lithium battery, electrochemistry, phase equilibria, thermophysical property, molecular interface technology, and process engineering.

Civil Engineering

The program offers knowledge in the area of construction and disaster prevention. The program specializes in integrating professional scholars and educators in civil, ecological and disaster prevention engineering to provide theories with applicability, practicality and breadth. The feature of the program lies in the foundation of civil engineering with focus set upon ecological and disaster prevention. The establishing of a leading national research facility cultivates engineers with broad horizons and perspectives. At present, the program has 24 full-time faculty members coming from domestic and abroad well-known universities and all of them are specialists in both theory and practice.

Molecular Science and Engineering

This program is devoted to elevate the research in organic and polymeric materials. The goal of the program is not only to make students strive for academic excellence but also to provide students with a solid training in the organic and polymeric industry. In order to achieve this goal, the program was designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop advanced competence in organic- and polymeric-based industry. At present, the department has 14 full-time faculty members and 1 adjunct faculty members. The expertise of faculties consists of three major classical sub-disciplines of science: biology, chemistry, and physics.

Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering

The department is the only academic program that integrates materials science with resources engineering in Taiwan. The department concentrates on combining the modern materials technology and sustainable resources to fill our students with the knowledge and techniques within the life cycles of materials. The development, applications, and processing of resources and the compositions, processing, structures, properties of materials are designed in our curricula to direct our students developing practical techniques and academic research careers.

M.A. & Ph.D Program

Civil & Disaster Prevention Engineering

The Institute of Civil and Disaster Prevention Engineering offers knowledge in the area of construction and disaster prevention. The institute specializes in integrating professional scholars and educators in civil, ecological and disaster prevention engineering to provide theories with applicability, practicality and breadth. The feature of the institute lies in the foundation of civil engineering with focus set upon ecological and disaster prevention. The establishing of a leading national research facility cultivates engineers with broad horizons and perspectives. At present, the institute has 21 full-time faculty members coming from domestic and abroad well-known universities and all of them are specialists in both theory and practice.

This institute emphasizes the practical aspect of technology according to the development of national construction and all are described as follows:

  • To stresses a balance between theory and practical work, and close affiliation with the engineering field to enhance the effects of education.
  • To cooperate with the development in information technology and implement computerized and automatic practical education to offer training and specialization at a professional level.
  • To research on the principles behind disasters and develop prevention or revitalization methods.
  • To investigate on safety-based and ecological oriented civil infrastructures using the principals of ecological engineering.

 

Materials Science & Engineering

The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) establishes her faculty, facilities, and featured areas to meet the demands of industry and the integrated development of Taipei Tech. The program is designed to cover the design, processing, structure control, characterization, and property design of innovative materials.

  • Electronic metals: In addition to the processing, heat treatment and property improvement of traditional metals, we focus also on the metals for semiconductor, electronic, and optoelectronic industries, such as of the research and development sputtering targets, thin film materials, amorphous metals.
  • Electronic ceramics: The featured areas include formulation and process development of passive components, Low Temperature Cofired Ceramics (LTCC) materials, RF devices, high Q, high K low-temperature dielectric ceramics, and optical/high dielectric thin films. The development of nano-technology for optical, electrical, and magnetic materials and their properties are also covered.
  • Energy materials: This category covers materials development and system integration for solar cell, solid oxide fuel cells, optoelectronic devices (such as sensors), magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generator materials, solid-state electrolytes, photocatalytic materials, and multi-layer thin films.
  • Biomaterials: We focus on the development of artificial joint biomedical materials, biomedical surface metallic modification, ceramic process of biomedical materials, and preparation of dental materials with the aids of nanotechnology. The use of nano-gold particles in bio-chips and innovative detection techniques, nanoscale anti-bacterial surface treatment for dental materials, biomimetic materials, drug delivery and release system are the main fields among being studied.

Organic & Polymeric Materials

This institute is devoted to elevate the research in organic and polymeric materials. The goal of the institute is not only to make students strive for academic excellence but also to provide postgraduate students with a solid training in the organic and polymeric industry. In order to achieve this goal, the IOPM program was designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop advanced competence in organic- and polymeric-based industry. At present, the department has 14 full-time faculty members and 1 adjunct faculty members. The expertise of faculties consists of three major classical sub-disciplines of science: biology, chemistry, and physics.

With the development of six major areas, high-tech textiles, energy materials, optoelectronic materials, green materials, nano materials and biomaterials as well as the expertise of our faculty, three programs are listed:

  1. Program of organic molecular materials – Solar cell materials, electroluminescent materials, anti-cancer drugs, material surface modification, non-toxic chemical pollution, the application of molecular biology, and nanomaterials.
  2. Program of polymer materials – Biomedical polymers, IC packaging with polymer, optical polymers, polymer composites, special features for polymer, and polymer blending.
  3. Program of fiber materials and textile technology – The dyeing process and pharmaceutical process with non-toxic and low pollution, composite fiber, automatic detection, and computerization of textile process ,the expert system of textile dyeing and finishing processes, multi-functional textile dyes and auxiliaries, and quality management system.

Environmental Engineering & Management

This institute is focusing on the education of environmental engineering and management to bring up students to be outstanding engineers, as well as conducting research on innovative environmental technologies to solve global environmental problems to meet the criteria of environmental sustainability. This institute is also   developing systematic management including automatic monitoring and computerized planning that promote graduated student’s knowledge for the environmental benefit of current and future generations. At present, the institute has 7 full-time faculty members, including three professors, two associate professors and two assistant professors, who specialize in both theoretical and practical research.

Based on engineering background, the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management (IEEM) offers several education programs, including (1) pollution prevention and reduction. (2) resource recycling and industrial ecology (3)systematic management on civil and environmental. The vision of the IEEM is of a life-suitable environment. Thereby, the available courses are expected to fulfill the requirements of environmental sustainability. Our Mission is to provide education, discover new applied knowledge, and the stakeholders, and to offer students with the fundamental knowledge, intellectual skills, and practical experience to become leaders in engineering. Therefore, all the courses programs arranged by the IEEM can promote a graduated student’s knowledge for research and coming job.

Mineral Resources Engineering

The fields of resource engineering are extensive and broad, including the development, synthesis, fabrication, recycling and reutilization of energy, resources and green materials. Hence the intention of resource engineering is to integrate the technology of resource and materials with industry techniques. The main purpose of the Institute of Mineral Resources Engineering is to cultivate professionals in these fields of exploitation and processing of resource, application and fabrication of resource materials, recycling and regeneration. At present, the institute has 7 full-time faculty members coming from domestic and abroad well-known universities, all are of specialists in both theory and practice.

Three fields included in the academic research of institute, and the directions of development of each one are as follows:

  1. Resource Processing and Material Fabrication: application of mineral particle techniques, resource regeneration and reutilization of the waste, new techniques of high-efficiency separation and recycling, preparation techniques of new resourcezation and functional composite materials.
  2. Resource Application and Material Synthesis: synthesis and application of functional nanometer materials (one dimension/two dimension), development of materials of solar cells, synthesis and application of various crystal materials, properties and application of gemstone materials.
  3. Resource Exploitation and Geological Engineering: resource exploration and exploitation of natural minerals, research of explosives and blasting techniques, scientific research of geological engineering, research of occurrence mechanism and prevention for geological disasters.

International Program

 

International Graduate Program in Energy and Optoelectronic Materials

College of Engineering, Taipei Tech

Introduction

Many environmental friendly renewable energy materials and technologies have been developed or are developing to replace fossil fuel. It is a consequential trend to develop novel materials for more efficient renewable energy in the future. Except the energy materials, optoelectronic device also plays an important role in our daily life. The materials are the most basic issue for the development of energy and opto-electrical application. National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) opens a special program called ”Energy and Optoelectronic Materials Program (EOMP)” to train students for above purpose.

EOMP is a special program for students who came from of other countries to Taiwan for the Master’s degree or Ph.D. study at College of Engineering in Taipei Tech. EOMP opens for foreign students who are interested in the pioneer energy and optoelectronic related materials. EOMP integrates the resources and professors from different institutes in College of Engineering, Taipei Tech, including Institute of Chemical Engineering, Institute of Bio-Technology, Institute of Organic and Polymeric Materials, and Institute of Material Resources Engineering.

Professors involved in this program are all interested in the energy optoelectronic materials and devices such as solar cells, dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs), biofuels, and fuel cells, memory device, light emitting diodes, and liquid crystal display etc. Students will learn and study the basic knowledge and technology related to energy and optoelectronics related materials and devices from EOMP. Students who came from everywhere in the world are welcome to apply to EOMP to learn and study high technique and useful knowledge in energy and opto-electronic materials in Taipei Tech as well as to enjoy the life and culture of Taiwan.

The College and the University

The College of Engineering offers eight graduate institutes–the graduate institutes of Civil & Disaster Prevention Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Organic & Polymeric Materials, Environmental Engineering & Management, Biotechnology, Engineering Technology and Mineral Resources Engineering. The total numbers of full-time faculty is 102. The eight institutes within the college have full-time and part-time master programs and doctoral program with a total of 798 students, 180 doctoral students were enrolled in academic year of 2015.
